James Dean’s Restored Triumph Scrambler

I’m fortunate enough to be friends with the amazing photographer Phil Stern. If you’re not familiar with his work, buy this book and be prepared to be amazed. One day I was over at his house in Los Angeles and stumbled upon an old pile of photos of this Triumph Scrambler. I quizzed Phil on them and was told how James Dean’s brother had asked Phil if he could use some of Phil photo’s as reference to restore James motorbike. Once he’d finished the restoration, he sent Phil these photos. In typical Phil fashion, they were piled under a bunch of photos and he thought nothing of them. And of course I freaked out. I scanned them and put the rest below.

  3. Awesome photos! Since Dean was an only child, might the restorer be Marcus Winslow, Jr., his cousin who looked up to him as a big brother?
